Top Quality Timber Bridges
Durability and Longevity
Design Life
The POLYbridge has a design life in excess of 75 years, outlasting the traditional timber bridge.
Rot Resistance
GRP is inherently resistant to rot, decay, and moisture, making it ideal for environments prone to dampness or flooding. This eliminates the need for costly maintenance and repairs associated with timber bridges.
Termite Proof
Unlike wooden bridges, GRP is not susceptible to termite infestations, ensuring its structural integrity remains intact over time.
Corrosion Resistance
GRP is resistant to corrosion, making it suitable for harsh environments such as coastal areas or industrial zones, superior to a timber bridge.
Safety
Slip Resistance
As opposed to wooden bridges that become slippery when wet, POLYbridges have a castellated finish on the POLYplanks to guarantee a slip resistance with a PTV rating in excess of 90 including a low slip potential even when wet.
Maintenance and Cost-Effectiveness
High Strength-to-Weight Ratio
GRP bridges are incredibly strong, capable of supporting heavy loads while maintaining a lightweight design. This reduces the overall cost of construction and transportation compared to wooden bridges.
Low Maintenance Requirements
GRP bridges require minimal maintenance, reducing long-term costs significantly compared to timber bridges or wooden footbridges.
Environmental Benefits
Sustainable
Our POLYplanks, posts, and rails all have a recycled plastic bottle structural foam core, which means our products actively save plastic bottles from landfill. This makes the POLYbridge a more environmentally friendly choice compared to a timber bridge.
Reduced Deforestation
Choosing a POLYbridge over a wooden bridge helps to reduce the demand of timber, contributing to forest conservation.
Aesthetic Appeal
Aesthetic Finish
The GRP has a wood grain effect finish that comes in a range of colours to blend into the natural environment. This ensures a timber feel without the risk of splinters that occur on wooden bridges.

Kingerby Bridge, Lincolnshire
Lincolnshire County Council required the replacement of an existing footbridge constructed from a combination of structural steel beams and timber decking which had deteriorated over the years and was now not fit for purpose. Given the remote location of the Kingerby Bridge, the lightweight GRP structure ensured a speedy installation with the removal of the existing bridge and installation of the new POLYbridge™ being executed within two days.
